Hello and welcome back to another episode of success Quest. I'm Jacob Harmon and you may have already noticed, but today's going to be a little bit different. I'm alone. Caleb is not here with us today because it's his anniversary and he decided to spend it with his wife instead of spending it with me recording two microphone.

And honestly, I think he made the right decision. So I mean it kind of goes back to what we've been talking about right with social success and how important relationships are especially family relationships. And I'm glad that Caleb made that decision to spend today with his wife and. I guess you guys get stuck with me today.

Today was quite a day for me and my family and so honestly, I think this episode is just going to be a quick story for me and a few lessons that I learned. But like I said today's been kind of crazy. Let me just tell the story. I graduated from college not too long ago, and I've currently got a job that.

Officially turned full time. It was a contract position and now it's an actual real job. So that was actually really exciting for my family and my wife and I have been looking at perhaps purchasing a home. We're basically trying to decide what we want to do with the next little bit of Our Lives since we're finally in a little bit more stable.

But while we're looking at different home options and where we want to live my parents have a basement apartment and. Obviously we can get a great deal living in that basement apartment. So it's something that we're doing right now. It has been a little bit hard for me though because on principle, I hate the idea of living in your parents basement right to me that's almost the exact opposite of success.

I think of success and I think of. Being independent and being self-reliant, right? And so that has been a little bit of a hard decision for me and it's nothing against my parents or the apartment. It's just the principle of me wanting to take care of my family. I want to be a successful father and a successful husband and I want to be the provider for my family.

And so that's that's been a little bit hard in and of itself. But my family just moved into this basement apartment this this week. We finally got our home organized and it started to feel like a home right? We got our pictures hung up and everything was looking good. I was at work today and I received a text from My Wife and she said Jacob.

I think you need to come home. The house is flooded. And of course I text her back and say well, how bad is it? I'm thinking on it's probably just a little water right? It's nothing. It's not a big deal. She says well, it's pretty bad. I'm pretty sure the carpets ruined. And anyways, you should probably get over here.

So. I told my my boss that I needed to leave and go take care of my flooding house. And he thankfully he was fine with that and I ran home long story short, we had to tear out the entire floor of this basement apartment that we just moved into I'll post some pictures in the show notes if you guys want to look at it, but man.

Today was a hard day. I mean it's hard enough already that we're kind of in this fluctuation point where we have a brand new baby. We're trying to figure out housing situations were trying to get settled but then to have something like that happen, and I just wanted to talk a little bit today about what to do when life throws you surprises.

When you get a curveball in life because it's going to happen. It's going to happen to all of us.

There's a famous phrase and I'm sure you've all heard it before this says when life gives you lemons make lemonade.  And it's obviously easier said than done, but it's true. The way you respond to a difficult situation makes all the difference.  Today we realized that stuff is just stuff and honestly not even that much of our stuff got ruined but the small amount of it that did.

It was just stuff. It was just things and things can be replaced. So you when these types of situations happen, you have to take a step back.  and realize.  that in the in the long run. It doesn't really matter that much.  Another thing that I noticed today was the importance of a good sense of humor.

We were tearing out the floor and it was a really dirty job. I mean literally the flood the flooding was sewage. So it didn't smell good. We were a mess. Our our hands were dirty and my wife was pulling up a board and she fell right into the water and there was water all up her back. Immediately.

What did she do? She started laughing and she thought it was the funniest thing. I'll be honest with you guys.  I was so attracted to my wife in that moment because I'm so thankful for a wife that's able to laugh and have a sense of humor during a difficult time. She could have been angry. She could have been really upset about the situation and honestly, I wouldn't have blamed her.

But instead she chose to laugh.  Another thing that I learned from this situation today was the importance of being grateful for the things you do have.  While it wasn't fun to come home to a flooding house. At least we had a house to come home to.  at least I have parents that are willing to give me a good deal on a good basement apartment.

And not only that but I have parents and brothers and sisters that were willing to spend hours this afternoon helping me clean up this mess. At least I have a dad that is a good handyman and knows how to actually fix the the sewage problem. I wouldn't have had any idea what to do. But he did and he was there helping there are so many things that we can be grateful for during difficult situations.

So in summary my three recommendations for you anytime you're having. Hard time or passing through a difficult situation.  number one.  get a bigger perspective take a step back and understand the full picture number to have a good sense of humor. It may be hard, but it'll definitely make the situation a lot more bearable and number three.

Be thankful for the things you do have and the things that have gone well in your life.  I know this is a short episode today. But as you as I already said today's been a crazy day, and there's still a lot more work to get back to and I. Just want to thank you all so much for being such an amazing audience.
