Kalob Valle  0:11
Welcome to another podcast episode with SuccessQuest. I'm Kalob IA. And I'm Jacob Harmon. And I am so energetic. It's unbelievable. I'm probably gonna be tripping over my words all night. Anyways, so excited for this podcast, just going straight into it. And we haven't even had a chance to talk about it at all either. So this is going to be like super raw. We just have kind of have a topic so

Jacob Harmon  0:42
yeah, usually we're a little more prepared than this. Kalob super energetic and I'm like a little dizzy today. I'm feeling a little sick. So we're gonna see how this turns out. Guys, this will be fun. But I will say it's good to be with you again. Kalob. We have done so many interviews that we haven't Done a podcast together in a very long time. So I'm actually really excited to be with just just us again.

Kalob Valle  1:05
Yeah, no, I totally agree. And we have a ton of more interviews coming up too. So it's like, it's really exciting. In fact, I wanted to ask, I was like, I want everyone all you questions out there listening, if you can just send me an email or a message with how you like being presented with podcast. I know, we had a really good response with our huge live event on Facebook, but those also tend to be super lengthy. I don't know what do you guys like? Do you guys like it when it's more live on Facebook and YouTube? Or do you like it when we have the person right there? You can see, do you like that? We've just been recording and posting it like I just want to know your thoughts about those. But I also want to get everyone super pumped about our awesome event that we have planned. We're going to be talking about that probably more at the end. But if you haven't gotten your tickets already, go ahead and check out my success. quest.com Get your tickets, subscribe to our emails, because it's gonna be awesome. Absolutely. Wake up and I'm going to be talking with sore the Cedric's and you guys got to see God already earlier when we had our virtual events, which was super cool, and it ended up being really awesome. Um, but yeah, it's only gonna be 10 bucks so you can come and network but also be enriched with a lot of motivating speeches.

Jacob Harmon  2:18
As a reminder, if you can't make it if you don't live in the Utah Salt Lake area, then if you purchase a ticket, we will be sending out an email where you can watch it live online. So the event is for anyone who's in the Salt Lake area, but also anyone anywhere because we want everyone to be able to learn from from these events.

Kalob Valle  2:38
They really are. So if you've ever been to an event before, you know the value that we're bringing right now for only $10 worth, if you've never done any of these kind of things before you should look up how much things like this you typically cost for people like God, I mean this is this is something you need to educate yourself on because it's it's nice Dave, like, what we're presenting you guys with is an amazing offer. And maybe I'll go and talk about that a little bit later. Anyways, let's just dive right into our topic, which is achieving goals and just getting things done when not having excuses for things. It was Jacob was like, Kalob, what are we gonna talk about this podcast and I immediately had something in mind that has just been driving me nuts lately, is the fact that it's so easy to come up with excuses not to do something. And granted, maybe some of those excuses are stronger than others. But at the end of the day, aren't all excuses excuses. And I guess I'll start off by saying that this kind of came about recently I was with my family in Idaho. My wife and I took a huge six hour exam for a certification program that we just went through, which was nuts. But after we did that the following day, we had a huge Like family get together. And it was super awesome. Like my sister is getting married and people wanted to see the fiance and meet him for the first time. And I was talking with my uncle. And he was talking to me, he's like, Yeah, I love listening to your podcast. My one thing is that you have so many amazing ideas, but you're only maybe, you know, going at it 10% of the way, you know, like, you aren't going after all of these ideas. You're kind of just maybe you're saying a lot of awesome things. And maybe you are doing a lot of awesome things, but some of those things you aren't doing. And he's like, the most powerful thing you can do is to show by example, right be doing things constantly. And I was like, you know, you're right. And then we, I mean, specifically we were talking about like physical goals, physical success. And he was like healed we have the potential to have like this amazing BOD man. It's gonna be you could do so many cool things. And I was like, You know what, you're right. But I just kid doesn't have the time I have a baby. And this thing's He's like, if it was worth it to you, you would find time. You know, like if those things were important to you, there wouldn't be those excuses, right? I don't know. Anyway, so I was just like, it's been eating me up alive, man, cuz I was like, He's right. He's right, man. I was like, I don't know. What do you think?

Jacob Harmon  5:26
I totally feel you man. I, and especially I think physical is probably the hardest for me to. I mean, I've told I've told myself over and over again, I'm gonna start exercising and start eating better. I'm going to lose weight. And I feel like I start, I go for a little bit. And then I stopped. And that's a cycle that obviously is very common, because that's why so many people are, are paying so much money. Oh, yeah, to try to lose weight, right? Because it's not easy and I think part of the problem is that our brains literally get stuck in a rut, because we've done something one way for so long. And honestly, and that could also be another excuse, right? So maybe, maybe I'm, uh, I'm not going in the right direction here. But it's kind of an excuse that I have is like, well, I'm just that way, like, my brain is just stuck that way, right? But the key is that we can change. And we can change those habits. And we can change the way that our brain is wired to do things, because it's just habits, right? It's doing something consistently for a while. And it's changeable. But it is hard. Yeah, it's not easy. I just, I just think that it's hard. Yeah. And I don't know what to say about that.

Kalob Valle  6:49
I'm thinking right now. Okay. So you're bringing up the whole fact because we can change right? We see that and people all the time, people who have lived this way their whole life and then they go take a full one at But what is the key differentiator between the moment that they were in the riots and the moment they decided to change? You know what? Like, I feel like a lot of people want to understand that split second that made the, the got the ball rolling, you know, and I'm wondering now, what would that thing be for me? You know, okay, so I mean, we've I've gone through the cycles just like you, right? I want to, we're going to, we're going to continue this with physical success, right? getting fit, at least, but like just being healthier, right? going and working out at least once a day or something running. Why can't I break that cycle of doing it for a little bit and then falling back into what I was doing? And then maybe a month or two later do the same thing and fall back into it? What do I have to do differently in order to break that? Is it just is it just telling myself that I need to, or am I waiting for a moment to force into it, or is there something smaller I can do? So to push myself in the right direction,

Jacob Harmon  8:05
I think there's always things you can do to push yourself in the right direction. I'm reading a new book, I need to update our website, but I'm reading a new book. It's called inaudible by near ILO, okay, and I'm not very far into it. I'm still at the very beginning, but I've listened to a few podcast interviews that he's done. And that's what got me interested in the book. But, uh, I'm really excited about it. And one of the things that he talks about in the book is reducing friction for the things that you want to do and increasing friction for the things you don't want to do. So for example, if something you don't want to do is scroll through social media all the time, then you create more friction for that instead of having the Facebook app or the Instagram app on your home screen. Move it to three or four screens, deep and inside a folder buried in the very back right Obviously, that's not a whole lot of effort, you just swipe over and click on the folder, swipe and click on the thing, right, right. But that little bit of extra friction will stop you from going straight to that app every time you open your phone, right. Another thing you could do to increase the friction is just delete the app from your phone, then you can only do it when you're on your computer, right? So there's little things you can do to increase friction and the things you don't want to do. And then decrease friction and the things you do want to do. So an example of that would be if you want to go running every morning, what you can do is actually get your shirt and your shorts out in your shoes that you want to go running in and have them all ready to go. That way when you wake up there. Right there. It's the first thing you see, right. Another thing you could do is I can't think of another thing.

Kalob Valle  9:53
No, this is crazy. Like, as you're talking I'm like this is really good stuff man. I never even thought about that. Creating friction for things that you want to not do, and then creating less friction for things that you do want to do. I like that a lot. Because I was just thinking, as you were talking, I was like, this is this is what it's about. It's about not complicating things, right? It's about it's, it's all simple. You know, like, if I want to do something, I have to do it and do small things like that, in order to take away the resistance from me, you know, we need to be simplifying how we're looking at achieving goals. If we want to change, we have to be the change, we have to do it. I think that's why I like that, that that phrase is so powerful, do it. I love that. I never even thought of it like that.

Jacob Harmon  10:48
Everyone wants the quick fix. Everyone wants the easy. I mean, you see it all the time, especially in weight loss, the pill that will just make you lose weight or the belt where you don't actually have to do anything. You just lose weight, right? That's just not the way life is. I mean, it takes work. But there are things you can do to make it easier for sure. I love that. Another thing that I actually just thought of Yeah, and you You're the one that mentioned it just a second ago, as you said something about, it's all about taking on that identity, right? So instead of the whole, hey, I want to be more fit, I want to lose weight. I think sometimes just switching that to I am the type of person that is fit, or I'm the type of person that exercises every day. I think taking on an identity can really make a huge difference.

Kalob Valle  11:40
I love that and and the other thing about that too, is that it's very simple to do. Like I don't have to over I shouldn't be overthinking how I am going to act. You know like if I want to be running twice a week. There's no weird thought process or like hypnosis that I I have to go through in order to convince myself that that's what I want, right? If I'm at them, if I'm at a place where I'm saying, Hey, I really want to be running twice a week, if I'm at that place, I'm probably literally on the fence leaning towards the other side of falling over and being that person, you know, because I'm already thinking that I just need to let myself fall and do it. Oh my gosh, if I, if I'm thinking I want to run twice a week, this week, now I need to do things like you were talking about. I need to find my tennis shoes and I need to put them somewhere visible as soon as I wake up and put a couple of alarms on put the phone away from me in the morning. That way, when it goes off, I have to get up and my shoes can be right there. I can slip them on and I can just go outside. And that's all I need to do first, I don't even need to maybe even run but if I can get myself out the door. I think that's a huge accomplishment because we're what we always talk about is you don't have to be perfect at it right immediately. But if you can make small steps in the progress, like towards progression. Like, yes, you're doing, you know, like we're doing it. If I got myself outside the next day, I think I'll be like, heck yeah, I can get myself out those doors, you know, that's a big deal.

Jacob Harmon  13:15
Oh, no, no, that makes perfect sense. That makes perfect sense to me.

Kalob Valle  13:20
I love it. Oh, man. Okay, so this is the thing. So talking about it is real easy right here, right? So now I'm sitting here and I'm like, okay, I and I knew I wanted this to be the podcast topics. And so I was thinking about this already, like for a couple days now. And I'm like, man, if I bring this up on my podcast show, now I have to, I need to commit, you know, because these are things that I want. And I want to show our community that someone like me, who is I don't know, like just a normal guy can do this, you know, and so I'm I'm going to make a huge commitment right now. That I for physical success because I also want to I want to do this for myself, you know, I was talking to my uncle, I was like, You know what, you made a good point. And I need to start doing this for myself, I need to be healthier, huge commitment right here from yours truly Kalob, normal guy, I am going to become healthier. So that means I'm going to start running and working out much more often. I'm not going to go to a gym, because I don't want to have stuff here at home and I can run around for free. So what I'm going to do is I am going to take a picture myself and posted on our page and you guys can see how unfit I am. I have a stomach man. It's really weird. It's not obviously a big step. But like it's compared to me. I'm self conscious. I know. I just think, you know, this is this is the moment I need to step up my game. And questor's all of you guys out there. You is going to see that this is, this is just as hard as it is for me as it is for any of you, you know, you just gotta you just gotta do it and I'm just going to do it. I'm just gonna do it and you guys are going to you're going to be part of my everyday process. Hopefully I'm going to commit to a year. I want to do it for a long time. And you guys can can see the progress. Oh, so there it is. There it is. Keep me up to it. If I forget, Jacob, please, please remind me because I'm sure a month from now I'm not gonna want to

Jacob Harmon  15:33
know totally. And I I'll try to keep you accountable. And that's the other thing too is I think having someone who can keep you accountable is huge. And I'm part of the problem is that I'm a little ways away from you. But if you could find someone who's close by someone who lives down the street, maybe or someone in your apartment complex, or if you can find someone who's kind of like your workout, buddy. That'll help too because if you surround yourself with the people that are already doing the things you want to do. That's very, very helpful. And I like it makes it almost impossible to make excuses because they'll be nagging you love it. Hey, Kalob, let's go running. Hey, you said you would do it. Let's do it. I experienced that. Back when I was in. I think it was like my, my sophomore year of college. I had two brothers there. And they were really, really, really good at working out. I mean, incredible. Almost every morning, they would go lift weights and go running, they would go do stuff. And everyone smile. And I mean, as a second. I don't really want to go. But I felt like I almost felt obligated, right that I had to go because they were doing something and I wanted to spend more time with my brothers anyways. And it was good for me. And we went swimming a few times even though they didn't like swimming, but I did.

Kalob Valle  16:55
Hey, something's good. That's that's probably the best exercise. Honestly. It's better than

Jacob Harmon  17:00
Not so much weightlifter runner button, and they were nice enough to go swimming with me a few times. But honestly, surrounding yourself with other people who are already where you want to be on specific goals is huge. That is a huge help.

Kalob Valle  17:14
I like that. Hey, if there are any questions out there who want to join me, and are in the Salt Lake area I would I don't mind going and running with you. Or if you need a buddy, I'll be your buddy, but I'll let you know if I find anybody. Dang anyways, so that's uh, we'll see uh, I have to commit right here right now already done it. Boom. You'll anyway, I don't want to make this whole podcast about me. Going back to achieving your goals and doing falling through with your ideas. This is probably one of the biggest reasons why we're having this event. why we're doing SuccessQuest. I feel like a lot of the time when people talk to me about SuccessQuest they don't really get the why behind it. You know SuccessQuest is about the long term. It's about focusing on your dreams and your aspirations. It's about becoming a better you a whole you, Jacob and I aren't trying to take tons of money from you. We're now these big millionaires who are trying to suck away thousands of dollars from you with these programs that just lead to more programs. We are trying to develop a community where it is affordable to everyone to learn how to become successfully, like whole not just financially not just focusing on business things and real estate this and drop shipping that and how to sell on Amazon. All those things are fine. People want to get rich I understand. But the the point of success is to be to wake up in the morning and be able to look in the mirror and say that you truly love who you are, where you are and where you're heading. You know that you can be okay with The type of job you're at, that you can be okay with your family situation, your relationships in general, your emotional state, all these things are so important. And SuccessQuest is devoted to helping you understand success, and all these different levels. And this live event that we're having, we're only going to be scratching the surface of some of those things. And we want to be holding events as often as possible. And we would absolutely love your support. If you're on the if you're on the fence about thinking about coming to one of these events, because you're not exactly sure what to expect. Let's break it down for you. This event is going to be awesome, okay, it's gonna be, it's gonna be like a rock concert. You're going to go to our venue. Okay, we have 80 seats, we're gonna have a huge projector and you're going to sit down next to people you don't know. And it's going to be kind of awkward and you're going to hear some music in the background and then we're going to start you Going to be you're going to feel this energy, the music is going to pump you up, and we're going to get on stage and we're going to hype you guys up. And then you're gonna hear people like Jody talk, you're going to hear him talk about his life story, his success. And you're going to start understanding, wow, I can apply this in my life, you can because you will be able to apply that in your life. Jacob and I are going to be talking about other different types of successes that we have endured and experienced. And you're going to be like, well, I can relate to that. And then we're going to have activities where you can network with people who have dreams, just like you aspirations, just like you. And you're going to feel a desire to actually move forward and accomplish those things. That's what this is going to do for you. It's gonna it's going to be the bridge between you and your dreams. And that's, that's what we want. We want to be there for you. Anyways, I talk a lot, but

Jacob Harmon  20:50
no, no, you're good. I'm really excited about it. Have you ever seen the office Kalob?

Kalob Valle  20:55
I love the office. Okay.

Jacob Harmon  20:58
Awesome. Well, I have I've been watching I originally I only watched the first few seasons the office and I'm trying to finish it because it's gonna be off Netflix soon. I know. So I was like, Okay, well, it's on Netflix, I need to actually finish it, just because it's such a big pop culture reference, and they want to understand all that it's true. I've been watching it, and I'm on season nine now. And one of the things that really hit me is so Jim has been working at Dunder Mifflin for so long, and he doesn't. He doesn't really like his job. He never has really liked his job. He's just kind of there. And the only reason he's really there is because he can make fun of Dwight, and pranking. Yeah. And so there's this moment where Jim realizes he's like, I've been wasting so much time doing something that I don't even like to do. And so he's right now where I'm at in the office, he's going and he's making his own company and he's doing his own thing. But I'm like, wow, like how many people live their lives. Not even loving what they're doing. I think a lot of us do. And really, there's no excuse for that. I mean, sometimes there are means to an end. I really liked your, your podcast last week, Kalob, where I mean, sometimes there, you're going to be in a situation that is a means to an end. And that's okay. Make the most of it. But I think all of us can make small decisions that get us where we want to be in our life instead of just treading water doing, just sitting around doing something we don't love. And that's what SuccessQuest is all about. It's about reaching your goals. It's about doing what you want to do with your life. Not necessarily just doing what you feel like you have to do with your life. And so, anyways, I'm incredibly excited about it. I'm excited about the community we're starting to build. We're getting a lot more people listening. We're getting a lot more people interacting on Facebook and social media, and I'm really excited about this. And honestly, if we can just help one or two people change their lives. decide to do something that's fulfilling. I'm happy with that, man. Me too. That's good enough for me totally agree.

Kalob Valle  23:07
And you know what something else that sparked in my head as you were saying that about the office because I love that part when Jim's venturing out and he's trying to find something that he loves to do. And you know how Jim takes his friend, Darryl from the warehouse. And he gives him a job interview. And while Joe Daryl is there, he's surrounded by all these people in suits, and he's like, I don't feel like I'm qualified to be here. I don't want to waste your time. And I don't know if you've gotten to that part yet. I have actually. Okay. Yeah. Cool. So, and then he's about to walk away. And they're like, wait, whoa, no, you're you're fine. Like, I'm a PE teacher. And like, I'm this and I'm that and they're all like, just random things, you know, that aren't qualifiers at all. And the one guy's like, yeah, I'm the only one probably qualified to be here on the emulator. Yeah. And it just, it makes me laugh because that's how life is. There is no real qualification. You can be a PE teacher you can be this you can be that you can be whatever you think is Low, you know, on that scale, and you qualify. I think that's the best part about it. You don't have to wait until you have a lot of money. You don't have to wait until you already have an amazing body, you can start at any point in your life. And you can start taking steps to attaining it. 10 year goals. So I just think that that part is also really cool. It just rings very true in my mind. No excuses. Absolutely.

Jacob Harmon  24:25
I mean, excuses are their natural, but we have to stop making excuses. Because that's just the way we hold ourselves back.

Kalob Valle  24:35
Yep. And yeah, you're not gonna be perfect at it and you're gonna see that I'm not gonna be perfect at AR Jacob. But we're going to try our best and that's all that matters. Don't have excuses. We're going to start living by that a little bit more. So anyways, new commitments, new cool things happening. The live event is happening in less than two weeks. We are so excited and we want everyone to be a part of it in some way. Like Jacob was saying if you can Get a live tickets to go to the event, purchase one. So you can be a part of our virtual events. If you do want to come visit us live, but you're not exactly sure what to expect, guys, take a chance, it's 10 bucks. It's $10. Like that's nothing even if you're a college student, and if you end up going and you don't enjoy what you see, I'll give you a full refund. Try Guys this is this is a really awesome opportunity for you. And if you have a life story and you want to be a part of this movement, the SuccessQuest movement, go ahead and email us send us a message on Facebook. We would love to have you on the show. It would be so awesome. Let's just end this by saying Follow us on on Facebook, Instagram, like our page invite people to like the page the more we The more we grow, the more people are going we can reach and and help out. This is a movement guys and you guys are part of the movement so congratulations.
